National awards accolade for Belton Cheese
The British Cheese Awards, which took place at the National Museum in Cardiff on Friday, September 25th proved yet another successful event for Belton Cheese with an impressive medal tally of 13 and a trophy for the Best British Export Cheese.
In what’s hailed as the annual “Cheese Oscars”, the awards are a unique opportunity to celebrate and showcase the country’s superb cheese making heritage and to reward the commitment and dedication of the industries top cheesemakers.
Judging for the awards took place in Oxford on July 10th, however the results remained top secret until they were announced at the dinner on Friday evening. Of the 13 awards presented to Belton Cheese, 4 were gold, 3 silver and 5 were bronze. In addition, Belton’s Farmhouse Red Leicester beat stiff competition to be crowned the Best British Export Cheese.
Commenting on the wins Justin Beckett, Managing Director of Belton Cheese said: “We have had such a successful year winning more then 80 awards and a further 13 brings us close to a century! There are so many excellent British cheeses, which means that the competition is extremely high. To beat 47 other award winning cheeses in the Best British Export category with our Farmhouse Red Leicester is a real honour. We are delighted and proud to come away with so many awards at such a prestigious event.”
