Barn Owl Upate – 2010
Having had our Barn Owl Boxes used twice we were hopeful that we would have a nesting pair again.
Unfortunately this was not the case, and one box was being used by Jackdaws and the other by Stock Doves. Stock Doves are classed as Amber status on the RSPB website, so perhaps we shouldn’t be too disappointed! (Red is the highest conservation priority, with species needing urgent action. Amber is the next most critical group, followed by Green.)
We had reports of a dead Barn Owl on the road near our land in April, so it seems likely that it was one of ours.
John from the Barn Owls Trust hopes that Barn Owls may start looking at the boxes again in the autumn ready for next year.
If you think you have land suitable for barn owls, please think about getting in touch with your local wildlife trust or contacting the Barn Owl Trust via their website: www.barnowltrust.org.uk
