Barn Owl Update – Belton Babes

Earlier in July we were thrilled to discover that one of our barn owl boxes is being used, and we have two owlets. They were about 5 to 6 weeks old on 17th July when they were seen (see photo).

On the 30th July an attempt was made to ring them, but they were too active and close to fledging. The decision was made that it would not be worth the risk of them escaping the box and disappearing into the wheat crop, but we were able to check that both were fit and well.

We hope our "Belton Babes" will do well and that our boxes will be used again next year.

If you think you have land suitable for barn owls, please think about getting in touch with your local wildlife trust or contacting the Barn Owl Trust via their website www.barnowltrust.org.uk
